Changing a tire on a highway shoulder, in the dark, in January, with traffic passing a metre away, is nobody’s idea of a good time. That is exactly what we are for.

What we do

If you have a usable spare (a full-size wheel or a compact “donut”), we jack the vehicle up at a proper lift point, swap the spare on and tighten the wheel nuts to the right torque. You drive to a tire shop at your own pace.

A compact spare is a get-you-home tire. Most are rated for about 80 km/h and a limited distance, so get the real tire repaired or replaced soon.

When a tire change will not work

If there is no spare, the spare is flat too, the wheel itself is damaged, or the locking wheel nut key is missing, a roadside swap will not help. We tow you to a tire shop instead, on the same call.

Many newer cars come with a sealant kit rather than a spare. Sealant can fix a small puncture in the tread, but not a cut sidewall or a tire that came off the rim. Check what your car has before you need it.

Do not drive on the flat

A few hundred metres on a deflated tire usually ruins the wheel as well, which turns a tire bill into a tire and rim bill. Pull over somewhere safe, put your hazards on, and call.

Wheel locks

If your car has locking wheel nuts, the key is usually in the glovebox, the trunk or with the spare. Find it before we arrive. Without it, the wheel cannot come off at the roadside.

Have these ready

  • Your spare, and whether it has air in it
  • The wheel lock key, if your car has locking nuts
  • Your location: a location pin from your phone is the most accurate
  • The vehicle: year, make and model

Questions about flat tire change

  • Do you carry spare tires?

No. We change the spare that is in your vehicle. If you have no usable spare, we tow you to a tire shop.

  • Can you repair the tire at the roadside?

No. A proper repair needs the tire off the rim and inspected inside, which is a tire shop job. We get you there.

  • Can you change a tire on a truck or SUV?

Yes, light trucks, SUVs and vans included. Tell us what it is when you call.

  • How far can I drive on a donut spare?

Check the label on the spare or your owner’s manual. Most compact spares are rated for about 80 km/h and a limited distance.
