Privacy policy

The short version

• This website has no forms, accounts or payments. It never asks for your name, email or phone number.
• When you call or text us, we use what you tell us to do the job you asked for, and nothing else.
• We never sell personal information.
• Analytics cookies are off unless you choose to allow them.
• You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you at any time.

Who is responsible

M.G Roadside Towing Inc. is responsible for personal information under its control. The owner of the company is our Privacy Officer, accountable for how we handle it and the person who answers privacy questions and requests.

Information we collect

When you call or text us

To send the right truck and give you a price, we ask for things like your name, your phone number, where you are, the year, make and model of the vehicle, what happened and where you want the vehicle taken. For some jobs, such as lockouts and scrap removal, we ask for proof that you own the vehicle or have the owner’s permission.

We use this to provide the service, contact you about it, bill for it, and keep the business, tax and safety records the law requires.

We do not record phone calls.

When you visit this website

• Server logs. Like every website, our web host (Cloudflare) records basic technical details of each visit (IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to run the site and keep it secure.
• Visit statistics. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits for us: which pages are viewed, the site that sent you here, your country and type of device. It sets no cookies, does not track you across other sites and does not tell us who you are.
• Analytics, only if you allow it. If you choose to allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how the site is used: pages viewed, approximate location (usually city level), device and browser type, how you arrived, and whether you tapped a call or text button. We see this as totals and trends, not as named people. Google explains its part in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
• Your cookie choice. Your browser stores whether you allowed analytics, so we don’t ask on every page. It never leaves your device.

Consent

When you call or text to request a service, you consent to us using your information to provide it. Analytics cookies need your separate, active consent: they stay off until you choose “Allow analytics”, and you can withdraw that at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. Refusing analytics never affects your ability to use the site or to call us.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only where needed to do the job or where the law requires:

• Where your vehicle is going, such as a garage, body shop, dealership or storage yard you choose
• Your insurer, the police or authorities, when you ask us to or the law requires it
• Service providers who run parts of our business for us: our web host Cloudflare (hosting and cookie-free visit statistics), Google (analytics, only if you allow it), and our phone and text carrier

Service providers may only use the information to provide their service to us.

Information outside Canada

Some of our service providers, including Google, may store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States. While it is there, it is subject to that country’s laws and may be accessible to its courts and authorities.

Third-party sites

Links to Google Maps and other sites take you to services we do not control. Their own privacy policies apply. This website’s fonts are stored on our own site. Apart from Cloudflare, which hosts the site and counts visits without cookies, browsing it sends nothing to any other company unless you allow analytics.

How long we keep it

We keep service records for as long as we need them to provide the service and handle any follow-up, and for as long as tax and other laws require. We then delete or destroy them securely. Analytics data is kept for the shortest period Google Analytics allows us to set.

How we protect it

We limit access to people who need it to do their job, keep records secure, and serve this website over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. If a breach of security creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as the law requires.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and, for Quebec residents, Quebec’s private-sector privacy law, you can:

• Ask whether we hold personal information about you, and get a copy
• Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
• Withdraw your consent, subject to legal and contract limits (we will explain what that means for any service in progress)
• Ask us to delete information we are not legally required to keep

Complaints

Please tell us first and we will try to fix it. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, if you live in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.

Children

This website is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 through it.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
